Ecosystem Restoration
Camp Paradise Fall 2019

Restoring Paradise goes further than just one town. The Camp Fire burned several areas in Butte County, the trauma of which reached people far and wide, calling us to come together as a community to support and care for each other. This Fall, we gather again to offer our services of healing both land and people throughout the burn scar communities. Join us for 10 days of immersion in Permaculture planting and rebuilding the soil and gardens, healing, music, and community. We will be offering workshops and training as well as Action Days while we gather around the camp fire as a hearth fire to further build our Green Network.

Paradise Revival Festival

To kick off our Eco Restoration Camp, we are teaming up with the Paradise Revival Festival on October 12th at the Terry Ashe Recreation Center in Paradise and they will also be part of the Action Day on the 13th at the Norton Buffalo Hall. Gathering as a group within the greater community on October 12th will set the tone for our efforts and focus of Action Days, collaboration and service to the community for Healing and Restoration.

“The Paradise Revival Festival celebrates the resiliency of our community. It is an opportunity to heal together through music, art, workshops, and self expression. Part music festival, part talent show, part community-day-of-action; we hope this festival will remind us who we are as a community.”

“Restoring Paradise:”
A Permaculture Action Day w/ Rising Appalachia & other artists TBA

Join Camp Fire Restoration Project and Permaculture Action Network for a free, family-friendly day of hands-on action to plant and build new gardens and infrastructure at the Paradise Community Guild’s property.

Projects, Workshops, Music, Food, and Community will be offered by local and regional experts and enthusiasts (check back soon for schedule announcements).

Norton Buffalo Hall, the home of Paradise Community Guilds, burned to the ground in the Camp Fire of 2018. The Guilds hosts multiple community gardens, open mic nights, potlucks, workshops, concerts, and classes, “fostering community by nurturing creativity, practicing stewardship of Nature, and promoting values of sustainability.”

Rising Appalachia will be sounding the call to action at their Northern California concerts in Arcata, Petaluma, Nevada City, and Berkeley, and will be joining us on-the-ground. Lukas Nelson and other artists will similarly be calling the Northern California community to action in Paradise at concerts and performances in the weeks before the action day.

This action day is part of a larger 10-day camp to restore land, homes, and common spaces around Butte County affected by the Camp Fire, read below for more information.

Please feel free to bring tools, work gloves, and potluck items to share, but do not feel obligated! Bringing a water bottle, and even reusable dishware if you have it, is wise.

Sol Sanctuary

Camping from Oct 11th-20th will be hosted at the Sol Sanctuary, with projects and events happening throughout Butte County Oct 11th-20th. Everyone is invited to camp and learn techniques that can be used in other communities affected by natural disaster and ecosystem degradation. There is a reciprocity request of 1.5 hours of work within the campground for each day of camping. Please visit Sol Sanctuary at solsanctuary.org

Please be prepared to pack it in and pack it out. We have composting toilets and an outdoor communal kitchen. We will be gathering around the communal eating area in the evenings. While we do have a water source, bring plenty of drinking water, food for yourself and to share if you like. We are encouraging collaboration and self organization of the camp for cooking and meals.

Also, tools, gloves, musical instruments, and anything else you would like to share for connection and healing is welcome. This is a family friendly event.

Please register for the Eco Restoration Camp Fall 2019 event here. You can choose to come to the Paradise Revival Festival (separately organized but let us know if you are going), Permaculture Action Network event on October 13, camp at the Sol Sanctuary for any number of days, or just come and participate on any day of the Eco Camp. We will be posting a schedule of events soon! You will also receive an email prior to the event with further details, directions and information. We look forward to seeing you and building community, healing and restoring our ecosystem together!
